Racing Fast Lane in 2006

In the fall of 2005 I took on Phil Scalise and Will Garvey as partners in Fast Lane.  This gave us some cash to buy new sails in 2006.  I also then had to share the helm and let them sail on 'my boat'.  They did all the maintenance but also changed some things around that I didn't like.  However, as I told my women's crew that year "it's the price ya pay for the life ya lead."  In general, it was a good deal for both of us.

Also in 2006, Rob and I ended our 2 year relationship, so no more trips to Pittsburgh, thank god!  But I ran around for awhile with a nice sailor named Brad during the first part of the year, he lived in Panama City, FL.  It turned out to be a longer drive to PC than it was a flight to Pittsburgh!  But finally a mutual sailing friend introduced me to Dave (via email).  I finally got Dave on Fast Lane for the IRYC Brevard Challenge.  He couldn't believe we sailed in a boat with no shade!

By Summer, things were pretty serious with Dave.  I was working on my PADI Divemaster rating and was diving every weekend and then driving down to see Dave for a night or two in the Keys.  So I didn't do much racing except the Women's Races and the major regattas.  I let Will and Phil actually do a couple of races without me.

On Sep 9, we brought Soggy Paws to Satellite Beach and Daved moved in with me full time.

We celebrated my 50th birthday after the last Women's race on Dec 2, with a big raft-up.  It was the last full series I raced in Fast Lane.  (snif)  I had promised Dave that in 2007 I would focus on getting Soggy Paws ready to leave.
