Scan your charts/chartlets to jpg files--put them all in one folder Use graphic program to straighten and crop (I use Picasa) Open Mapcal 2 Use Tools / Convert to import your jpg files to WCI files If a single file, then use the single file If many files, you can point it to a directory and do them all at once (point the output to a different directory) (answer yes to Convert files without Calibration) Then for each file 1. File / Open Image a. Check the Title (defaults to file name) b. Change the scale to approximate the scale of the chart (just rough guess) c. Change the depth indicator to proper scale d. Check datum e. Check Projection You can go back and correct this later from Edit / Chart Information 2. Do at least 3 Calibration Points a. Make sure the Cal/Border panel is on Cal b. Right Click on an appropriate point on the chart (lat/long intersection) and say Add New Cal Point c. In the Lat and Long boxes to the left, put in the correct info. You can zoom in and out of the chart with the + - at the bottom of the Cal panel 3. Check calibration a. Set to 'Normal Grid' in the drop down box b. Click on Activate changes c. The purple lines should line up with your lat long lines If they are squiggly, at least one of your cal points is wrong. Make appropriate changes and Activate Changes again until the grid lines up properly. 4. Set Border a. Click on the Border tab on the panel to the left. b. Make sure the Show Borderline checkbox is checked c. Click on Set border to Image button. d. If you have cropped the white space out of the borders, and your chart is square, you're done Otherwise, move or add border points to correctly outline your chart. It is possible to do odd shapes. 5. Save Calibration Once you have calibrated all your files... 1. Make sure the folder with the wci files is in your Sea Clear path Tools / Set Directories 2. Scan for new / updated chart calibrations Tools / Autoload List / Scan for New Charts If you subsequently modify a calibration, Tools / Autoload List / Update is required. It's a good idea when through to bring your charts up and make sure they scroll OK (ie one border leads to next chart adjacent).
